Invitation to Mdzananda Animal Clinic’s 20 year birthday Paw Member Picnic

As the Mdzananda Animal Clinic celebrates 20 years of serving the community of Khayelitsha and their pets we are excited to launch our Paw Member campaign and invite members of the public to join us at our Paw Member picnic.

It all started with a community hero who wanted to help his neighbours’ pets. Mr Joe from the Khayelitsha community pushed a trolley and water bucked around bathing and feeding community pets. He soon attracted volunteers to assist him.

A long standing volunteer was able to secure significant funding to assist the man in his animal saving efforts. Mr Joe handed over the management of the project to this volunteer who became the full time Project Manger up until May 2015 when a new director joined the Mdzananda team.

In October 2016 Mdzananda Animal Clinic celebrates 20 years of serving the community’s pets through providing animal welfare services. Anyone who visits Mdzananda will be pleasantly surprised by this animal haven in the heart of Khayelitsha. “When visiting Mdzananda you will be met by the hustle and bustle of barking of dogs and a deep feeling of joy, love and respect for animals and their human companions,” says Marcelle du Plessis, Fundraising and Communications Manger.

The clinic serves up to 1000 pets per month through two consultation rooms, a hospital ward, operating theatre for general and specialised surgeries, two isolation wards, a cat ward, a dog and cat shelter facility, a mobile clinic and an animal ambulance service. The clinic staff also responds to cases of abuse and neglect and have a strong focus on humane education and pet owner empowerment.

On this momentous occasion of celebrating 20 years we would like to invite you and your pet to join us at our Paw Member picnic at the Blaauwklippen Wine Estate on the 25th of October 2016 from 11am – 2pm. Come meet the team, have a picnic and enjoy the many farm activities. This fun event is our way of saying thank you to our generous Paw Members (monthly donors) who have supported us for 20 years and to invite new Paw Members to join our family.

Paw members are special supporters who commit to making a monthly donation to the Mdzananda Animal Clinic’s work from anything as little as R25 per month.

As we celebrate our 20th birthday we also experience some sadness. Due to the economy one of our main and long standing donors has begun reducing annual funding by 20% this year. Due to the exchange rate this represents more than R600 000 for this current year (and will continue deducting an extra 20% each year until the year 2020 when funding will stop for good). This is a big knock but we are staying positive as we launch our Paw Member campaign!

Together we can continue to grow Mdzananda from strength to strength. If just 700 people sign up to become Paw Members and donate R100 per month we will cover the deficit for this financial year. “R100 per month might not be a lot to one person but to us it saves an animal life,” says Marcelle du Plessis, fundraising and communications manager. “We hope to have many new Paw Members sign up to support our continued animal saving work.” To sign up as a Paw Member or to join the Paw Member picnic contact info@mdzananda.co.za.
