International Handlers Workshop – November 2015

Gill : 24 September 2015 8:50 pm : Agility, Events

Kath from JUMP Agility Dogs has done it again! This year she is bringing out two exceptional handlers from the UK. Laura Chudleigh and Ann Harmes will be in Cape Town from the 1st until the 17th of November. The working spots tend to go very quickly but there is always space for observers. This is such a wonderful opportunity and definitely one to be grabbed with both hands. The program is subject to change so please contact Kath with any questions regarding this event.

With one of the previous workshops, we could only get a spot to observe but when we arrived someone offered us their working spot as there were birds on the field and she knew her dog wouldn’t focus. I was completely unprepared and only had a few treats but luckily friends pitched in and donated. So, even if you don’t have a working spot, be prepared as you never know what luck may come your way.

Jump Beginners Agility Competition – 31st May 2015

Gill : 7 May 2015 8:45 am : Agility, Events

Here’s the flyer for the next Jump Agility Dog Club Beginners Competition to be held on the 31st May in the beautiful Constantia Valley. Dogs that are eligible to compete are those that are not yet competing or are new to competition and have taken part in less than three shows.

By special request, retired dogs are also invited to enter. They are allowed to jump at a lower height than the competition height for their category so that the risk of injury and the stress on their bodies is less. It really is amazing to watch some of these oldies on the course. They love the activity and simply shine.

WPRT Flyer 2015 - For FB

This long weekend is going to be a busy one for agility enthusiasts and competitors that compete under the SADAA umbrella. Typically competitors travel from the Eastern Cape and the Free State to compete in this bumper weekend and it’s planned well in advance.

Last I heard there were 131 dogs competing so the competition will be tough and the standard will be high. It’s well worth popping along if you enjoy watching agility. Entry is free and all spectators are welcome.

Thanks to Kathy for sending me the flyer.

What’s New At Jump Agility Dogs For 2015

Gill : 24 January 2015 12:04 pm : Agility, Events

What's New For 2015

Kath from Jump has two new activities scheduled for dogs and dog lovers during 2015.

For the puppies under 12 months there is the SuperPups class and for the older doggies there’s the SuperDogs BOOTCAMP. It certainly looks like it will be great fun and it’s always nice to do these things as part of a group and get tips from others and feedback on your progress. Not forgetting the beautiful venue.

Proprioception is great not only for agility dogs but for any dog. Although Daks and I don’t compete anymore I still focus on training him so he gets both physical and mental stimulation and he stays physically strong and mentally agile. Besides, he won’t rest at night after his walk and dinner unless he’s done some form of ‘play’.

Here’s a clip to wet your appetite and see some amazing body awareness. If you try this at home, remember to take it slowly to build up muscle strength and don’t push your dogs too far too quickly.
